After having read an analysis on the Gujarat Net- Metering Regulations, here is a step-by-step procedure of Net-Metering application for those in Gujarat been waiting for these to kick start their projects. The procedure for application is beautifully outlined here in the Guidelines with set timelines. This finally seems a lot more organized and straightforward framework.

Stage 1- Submitting the Application:

Application

Application for registration with GEDA can be viewed here. The Single Line Diagram, Earthing Diagram and Wiring Diagram would be provided by your Installer.

Application form for DISCOMS will be available on their respective websites. The one uploaded by Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company can be viewed here. The application fee applicable for application submission is as follows. This payable to the respective DISCOM along with the application.

Stage 2: Technical Feasibility Analysis:

TFR

The connectivity level for various sizes of the Rooftop Solar Power System is as follows:

Connectivity

Division for TFR will perform feasibility analysis and provide the report to the Head Office which will then issue a letter to the customer approving the net metering connection (as briefed below)

Stage 3- Net-Metering Approval:

Post TFR

Stage 4- Commissioning:

Commissioning

The change of the meter as mentioned above will only take place after an ‘Intimation’ is sent from the customers end about completion of the project following which a list of documents are to be submitted. The meter is changed thereafter along with the signing of the Net-Metering Agreement.

The meter installed is a bi-directional meter in replacement to the existing meter. In addition a Solar Meter is installed which will reflect the generation of the Solar Power System. However, this is something Sunkalp Energy takes care of when Installing your Solar Power System with its strength is liaising. Click here to get a free estimate.

  1. Hello Ms. Tanya,

    Greetings of the day !

We came across during the InterSolar-2016 meet. After going through your blog, I would like to know whether the net-meters for Gujarat has been released. Since past few months it had been held by the government.

    Best regards,
    Rutunj Acharya

    1. Dear Rutunj,

The standards for them have been released, however, I don’t have information on whether they have been procured by the DISCOM or no. However, since the standards are laid what can be done is, you may procure the meter on your own and send it to the DISCOM for testing. Hope this was helpful.

      1. Dear Tanya,

Thanks for the response. The Gujarat DISCOM doesn’t accept foreign meters. They are provided by them only.

        Best Regards,
        Rutunj Acharya

    1. Dear Jigar,

That can be done, there would be mainly a land acquisition and approvals needed around that. In case, it’s Rooftop, such approvals would not be necessary. You may write to me on tanya@sunkalp.com for more details.

  2. Dear Tanya,

We are planning to install 3.2 kWp Rooftop plant on a Residential building in Vadodara, Gujarat. The Solar plant supplier is not a Channel Partner with MNRE as of now.

Are we eligible to Net Metering and Subsidy (State / Central) ?

    1. Dear Jatin,

I’m not sure you’re eligible for subsidy in that case. Also, as a non-channel partner, it would be difficult to get net-metering done. However, if the EPC has experience in net-metering in that area, then it should not be a problem. We are ourselves a Channel Partner of MNRE. You may write to me at tanya@sunkalp.com.

      Regards,
      Tanya
