To much of our clients concerns, buying solar panels has been a cause of worry and uncertainty. Here’s a brief article briefing you about an empowering feature and a cushion for your future with solar panels. Much like Indian arranged marriages where to families marry ensuring the boy and the girl work, we have warranty documents (warranties) guaranteeing the success of your solar panels.
Solar Panels form the heart of your Solar Power System and is the main and the most expensive component of the entire system. Hence, the warranties for this component worries customers the most. You would be happy to know the though the panels are expensive, it leaves you with hardly anything to worry about with its long warranty.
Following are a few details about warranties available on Solar Panels. These may not always be available on all brands which would help you differentiate between quality and cheaper panels.
Applicability of Warranties
There are two main types of warranties that would be available along with the Solar Panels you purchase. One is Product Warranty and other is Generation/ Power Warranty.
Product Warranty: This specifies that the product will remain free of defects in materials and workmanship under normal conditions. This warranty is for 10 or 12 years.
Generation warranty: This specifies that under ideal conditions of sunshine falling at 1000 W/m2, the module will produce 90% power output for first 10 years and 80% output for the next 15 years. This warranty is available for the full period of 25 years.
Documents to expect and its source
Once the panels have been purchased, you should ideally receive a Warranty Document which will be either given to the EPC Company executing the project or directly to you if you have purchased the panels directly from the manufacturer. If this is not something you’ve received make sure you ask for it now as best practice.
Typical life of Solar Panels
With the guarantee period itself being 25 years, Solar Panels have a much longer life. If you’re a young couple, you can be sure that the solar panels would serve you till you children get married and they have children. So, typically, their life is estimated to be about 35 years (refer).
Why you have not too much to worry about
With warranties on your back, you don’t have to worry too much about the output. However, you may keep monitoring it with your remote monitoring software connected with your inverter.
This is what it means generally, however, many companies add a few clauses to make its applicability specific to their products. An example of that may be seen for Navitas Panels (Click here to view its warranty document).
